  • An adult male house sparrow cranes his neck while perched on a black metal fence with green foliage out of focus in the background

    Exotic and Invasive Bird Removal

As far as birds go, the English house sparrow and European starling are some of the most plentiful birds on the planet, virtually taking over the world compared to their original native ranges. While they were brought to North America to control crop destroying caterpillars originally, they’ve since become a more devastating and widespread pest than those very insects, competing with native birds and destroying their nests and food sources as well as transmitting disease and parasites to poultry and native birds.

Luckily for you, we’re experts on sparrow and starling capture and control! We also offer services for invasive waterfowl removal!

    Pigeon and Collared Dove Removal

These large gregarious birds are extremely common invasive species in North America and they can often infest buildings and canopies, leaving massive amounts of waste beneath their roosts. Doves are known for traveling great distances to return home and associate humans with food sources, making them common in store lots and other activity centers.

They can be a very tricky squatter to get rid of, but we have some tricks up our sleeves!

  • A crusty looking starling fledgling peers out from a hole broken into a stucco siding cavity.

    Invasive Bird Nest Removal

Invasive birds like European starlings love nesting in the cavities of buildings or house attics! House sparrows and pigeons love nesting in canopies and inside stores as well! We can remove those nests no problem, even in the tightest of spaces.

Note that nests built by native birds protected by the Migratory Birds Act cannot legally be removed or harassed under most circumstances and only with GA DNR approval on a case by case basis.

    Native Protected Bird Rescue

Most native migratory birds are cautious about interacting with humans and tend to avoid contact, but occasionally will invade buildings, get trapped inside of them, or otherwise stuck in a dangerous situation in some way. In these cases we are happy to rescue them and return them right outside where they belong. Native birds cannot be relocated legally and must be brought to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator if they are somehow injured. Their nests cannot legally be interfered with.

Such native birds can not legally or ethically be harassed, removed, or relocated if they are living and nesting outside.

    Bird of Prey Rescue

Hawks, owls, and other birds of prey are also protected species in the United States. Every year many juvenile birds get themselves into dangerous situations following prey into buildings. Even adult birds make mistakes sometimes. Here at Trapstar we are masters of safely capturing confused birds of prey and returning them outside to the wild where they belong. We frequently take injured birds of prey to raptor rehabilitators every year as well. Our experience handling and caring for these majestic animals helps us to keep them comfortable until they can be delivered to proper veterinary help.

    Baby Bird Rescue and Rehab

If you have found a baby bird with feathers chances are it is a fledgling learning to fly while its parents continue to feed it. You should leave these birds where they are so that they can learn to fly and feed themselves naturally.

However if you have found injured, sick, or orphaned native baby birds we can happily help you get them placed with a native bird rehabilitator near you!

Wildlife rehabilitators typically will not take orphaned or injured invasive species to save room for native animals that need to be reintroduced back to their environment. Every year we end up raising invasive baby birds that are either removed from a nest or brought to us for help. If you want to give them a chance feel free to reach out for rehab placement of invasive birds.
